COMM-PRO

HISTORY

Comm-Pro Associates, Inc. was formed in 1973 as the sole provider of software packages designed to enhance the performance of early IBM 3705 communications controllers. In fact, Comm-Pro provided IBM with PEP Extended Features PRPQ. These enhancements reduced the hardware resources required in an IBM mainframe communications environment through improved performance. These functions also extended the usefulness of controllers that had been superseded by newer models. Comm-Pro's X.25 Network Access Support (NAS) not only added to the life of these older machines, but also carried on their enhancements to every new 37XX controller IBM has announced. In addition, Comm-Pro has worked extensively with IBM on special projects and custom environments.

Comm-Pro's software programs support current IBM terminal protocols together with many non-IBM standard protocols. The X.25 Network Access Support package is the only addition to IBM's 37XX controllers with enhancements such as greater message size capacity, Emulator Program Interface, XPATH support, and System Select Capability. NAS is easy to install and transparent to users.

One of the keys to Comm-Pro's success is its commitment to direct and personal technical support which is only a phone call away. Comm-Pro is able to customize its software to the specific needs of each user, usually at no additional cost, and migrates these changes to any new version the user moves to. Comm-Pro also works with both the user and the vendors of other products to resolve any incompatibilities or to implement new support. Comm-Pro stays on the cutting edge of product performance and adapts its products to changes in user-installed software. Monthly fees secure maintenance, program modifications, temporary program fixes, and all changes required to support the IBM operating systems.

The Comm-Pro Communications Controller Enhancements are a series of individual packages for performing distinct enhancement functions for the IBM 3705/3720/3725 and 3745 machines. These packages support a wide variety of asynchronous, binary synchronous, and native SNA terminals, including Transparent Binary Data.

Products can be installed on any IBM mainframe that supports a 37XX controller, including the IBM 9370, ES/9000, and the 390 series.

Enhancements include the base package - X.25 Network Access Support, which provides both SNA and non-SNA X.25 gateways. It permits asynchronous TTY, IBM BSC 3270-type terminals, BSC 2780-type remote job entry (RJE) stations, and native SNA equipment to access host IBM systems through X.25-based networks such as Tymnet, Embratel, Transpac, etc.

For environments with investments in 37XX controller devices, Comm-Pro's enhancement packages provide a viable alternative to expensive replacements when new devices are introduced. In addition to offering the right technology at the right price, documentation is detailed and thorough. Installation could not be more simple. Sysgen assistance is provided to allow customers to get up and running without the need for extensive training. Free trial periods of thirty days take the risk out of the experience. And 24 hour a day help is available by phone. Who could ask for more?
