PP04 - NETWORK FACILITIES PACKAGE

The basic function of this package is to give the CCU the ability to switch a start/stop line interface so that it can communicate with different host subchannel addresses. With this package installed, any start/stop terminal, independent of speed, may use any start/stop line interface to access any host system. Thus, a single telephone rotary group may be used to support multiple terminal types and multiple host systems.

The most significant aspect of PP04 is derived from the fact that the subchannel address associated with a start/stop line interface need not be dedicated at SYSGEN time. A line that is SYSGENed without a subchannel address is termed a contention line. Subchannels are dynamically assigned to contention lines by the Control Program based on input from the terminal operator.

• CCU Console Support
  
  This feature allows a start/stop terminal to be used as a CCU operator console. When a line interface connects to the PP04 console subsystem, the terminal operator communicates with a command processor that resides entirely within the CCU. The console command language provides commands that, for example, permit control of the Control Program trace facility, allow modification and display of CCU memory, permit the display of line statistics, line interface hardware signals and so on. Access to the console subsystem is provided by a special form of the POOL macro. Options are supplied that can limit console display and modify capabilities and provide protection from unwanted terminal access via password verification.
  
  CCU CPU Monitor Facility
  
  This feature allows the CCU CPU load to be calculated. The monitor function is activated from the 3705 operator panel, 37mm MOSS console or by a PP04 console command. When the monitor is running, the Control Program collects X25 access link statistics and substitutes a CPU level 5 counting loop for the CPU wait state. Monitor results can be retrieved by displaying the internal statistics control area in CCU memory from the 3705 front panel, 37mm MOSS console or by a PP04 console command. In the latter case, the statistics are reported in tabular form (in counts per second) and the available CPU cycles are reported as a percentage of the maximum available CCU CPU cycles.

STATS - STATISTICS GATHERING FACILITY

This feature allows the Control Program to collect EP line statistics such as characters transmitted and received, CCW's executed (by type) and unit check endings. In addition, X25 line statistics such as frames transmitted and received, characters transmitted and received and line error conditions can be collected. While this feature may be used by itself or with any of the other Comm-Pro packages, it is normally used in conjunction with the PP04 console subsystem. This is because the console subsystem provides commands for starting, stopping, displaying and clearing the statistics counters.
